August 2001: Lynn’s Quay 2 Fitness gym looked like a Top of the Pops studio when 150 children took part in a mini popstars competition. Youngsters from five to 15 turned up for the classes held by Alison McLatchie-Brown, of the Lynn Street Dance Club. Alison is surrounded by some of the contestants in this picture.

August 2001: In a bid to make bookshops fun places for children during the summer holidays, staff at Lynn’s Ottakar’s store held a puppet show of Roald Dahl’s story The Twits – and more than 20 youngsters enjoyed the show.

August 2000: The fifth season of excavations at Sedgeford’s Boneyard Field included an open day when local people could get a first-hand view of the archaeological detective work carried out by the Sedgeford Historical and Archaeological Research Project (SHARP). Skeletons such as this were carefully reassembled by the SHARP team to see how much could be learned about everyday life in Saxon Norfolk.

August 2011: A tombola stall proved a popular attraction at the Holmwood House care home summer fete in Swaffham and these helpers were kept busy topping up the prizes.

August 2011: Fun Sumo wrestling was one of the attractions at a charity day held at Hunstanton’s United Services Club. Pictured are Keiran Beckett, Kevin Hallam and club secretary John Turner. Added to the proceeds from a race night, it was hoped more than £1,500 could be given to the Lynn News’ West Norfolk Young Carers Appeal.

August 2011: Getting ready to make music are a group of South Lynn young people, joined by Sheena Carman, back right, and Karen Creed, during a training day at the former Labels shop in Lynn, ahead of the following week’s summer holiday workshops.

August 2011: It was splish, splash and spills at Downham Water Festival with dragon boat racing again a highlight. The competitors in boat No 1 dig deep into the waters near Hythe Bridge, Downham West.

August 2011: Parents, staff and partner organisations were all represented when the Vancouver Children’s Centre in Lynn – set up to provide family support and children’s service – held an open day at Fairstead Community Centre. Dozens of children went along with parents for the fun-filled day.

August 2003: Heacham’s sixth year of summer sports proved a winner with many courses over-subscribed. Kite flying at Heacham Middle School was part of the programme and pictured at the front are instructor Ron Smith, Craig Smith (12), Sophie O’Callaghan (9) and youth sports development officer Jason Richardson.
