Lynn’s victorious King Edward VII School rugby team were pictured on the Lynn News sports pages in January, 1983, before taking on Thetford Grammar School – and coming out top in the fixture by 16 points to 6.
It was the first-ever competitive match on the new rugby pitch at KES sports field and the team comprised 12 present and three former students.
The side was skippered to victory by England Colts triallist Mark Smith, who was also a first team regular with West Norfolk Rugby Club.
Paul Tebay, head of PE at the school, said that football and rugby had traditionally been the main sports at KES, but he was hoping schools rugby would take off in the area.
