Memory Lane schooldays: Gaywood Junior pupils receive cycling test certificates

Thirty youngsters from Gaywood Junior School in Lynn were celebrating in January, 1993, after receiving cycling proficiency test certificates.

The children, all from Year 6, had been taking cycling safety lessons at lunchtimes, and after school, since the previous autumn term.

Three parents and a road safety officer helped teach the youngsters safe cycling – and there was delight all round when the certificates were presented.

Another 34 children were booked in for the next test starting that summer.

The headteacher, Mr Paul Holbrook, said: “The scheme has been running for several years, but we’ve made a big thing of the presentation this time because we’ve had very good support from parents.”
