£1,500 bill for punching doorman at King's Lynn's 7th Heaven

A last-minute punch to a doorman cost a West Norfolk man a £1,521 court bill.

Jack Allan struck Ryan Ellis at closing time for 7th Heaven gentlemen’s club in Norfolk Street, Lynn.

Town magistrates were told on Thursday that it was just after 2am on June 24 when Mr Ellis asked Allan to finish his drink and get ready to leave.

Prosecutor Jodin Gherra said the defendant refused at which point he was escorted towards the exit.

“The complainant then says he effectively has to get him out of the door and the defendant punches Mr Ellis through the crevice of the door,” added Mr Gherra.

The doorman suffered a lip injury and although Allan left, her later returned to apologise.

Police had already been called.

Mr Ellis said in a victim impact statement that the incident had made him change his way of working, which might limit his future options in the security industry.

Allan, who pleaded guilty to assault, had a conviction for assaulting a police constable in 2015.

Mitigating, solicitor George Sorrell said his client felt the doorman had spoken to him in “rather a cheeky way” and the reaction had been an isolated incident.

He added that Allan was not a violent person and did volunteer coaching with junior footballers at Clenchwarton.

He had shown the measure of his immediate remorse and regret by returning to apologise to Mr Ellis, said Mr Sorrell.

Allan, of Tinkers Way, Downham, was fined £833 and told to pay the doorman £250 compensation.

He must also pay £333 victim surcharge and £105 costs.
