100 hamper challenge is a success for King's Lynn Academy
Staff and students from King's Lynn Academy delivered 100 Christmas hampers to the elderly and community groups across Lynn.
For the last two years they have hosted a meal at the Academy, with 100 attending each event.
Due to Covid and social distancing restrictions, organisers had to rethink the event to ensure the safety this year.
Hayley Lockey, head of year 8 at the school, said: "It's a bit of a shame as a lot of the people who come are ex-students and they really look forward to seeing each other each year.
"I came up with the idea of doing a 100 Christmas hamper challenge. It felt different, but it was just as rewarding to see their faces light up when we delivered the hampers. It's made a huge difference to a lot of people."
This year's hampers were made all the more special thanks to a £500 donation from King's Lynn Round Table.
Hayley said: "The Round Table have been really lovely and their donation has meant we can make the hampers extra special this year."
The team delivered hampers filled with mulled wine, stuffing, cranberry sauce, biscuits, dried fruits and lots of other treats to see them through the festive season.
They also delivered hampers to various community groups including 30 hampers to Lavender Court, some to the PHAB Club and the Church of Nazarene.
While the event may not have been able to go ahead as planned this year, Hayley is hopeful that they will be back to normal by next December.
She said: "I'm hoping, but if not we will do the same again. It's been just amazing, the effort from staff and students, I can't thank them enough. Everyone has just been fabulous."
