Harley Rose Hawes from Sporle kicked police officer after shouting and swearing in neighbour’s garden in early hours of the morning

A drunk 41-year-old who was shouting and screaming in her neighbour’s garden during the early hours of the morning later kicked a police officer.

Harley Rose Hawes, of Hills Close in Sporle, appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday where she admitted assaulting an emergency worker and using threatening words to cause alarm or distress.

Prosecutor Anna Crayford told the court that in the early hours of February 12, a lady who lives near Hawes was woken up by a security alarm going off.

Hawes was in her front garden screaming and shouting. She was repeatedly shouting “mother-f****r” and was described as being “erratic” and in “total rage”.

The woman said the incident left her feeling “shaken up and upset”.

The police were called and when they arrived at the scene, they were concerned for Hawes’ wellbeing.

She was trying to get away from officers and when she was handcuffed for her behaviour, she began to squeeze the police officer’s hand.

Hawes then threw herself onto the floor, bringing the police officer down with her on wet grass.

When they tried to detain her again, she kicked the police officer.

When taken into police custody, Hawes apologised to officers and said that she “didn’t mean” to kick the police officer.

In mitigation, George Sorrell told the court that Hawes had been drinking on the evening, but had completely stopped since this incident.

Mr Sorrell explained that Hawes, who has numerous mental health conditions, has been to her local corner shop in Sporle, asking staff not to serve her alcohol.

He said: “She is full of remorse and regret for her actions. We know also that the police were concerned about her.

“The officer she kicked expresses no animosity against her.”

Mr Sorrell said that Hawes has been seeking help for her mental health issues, which are heightened by alcohol.

“She has made a positive step to address her alcohol issues,” said Mr Sorrell.

He explained that Hawes has been taking extra GCSE exams and other qualifications with the aim of helping others.

Before she is sentenced, a report by the probation service will be carried out.

Hawes will return to court on April 10.
