Hockwold man John Scott caught naked on all fours in back of car by member of the public

A shocking incident saw a 62-year-old man caught naked on all fours in the boot of his car.

A member of the public reported seeing the man moving his hand up and down as though he was masturbating.

John Scott, of Dyke Road in Hockwold, appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, where he was sentenced for exposure after previously pleading guilty.

Prosecutors told magistrates that the incident happened on January 19 in Hockwold. A member of the public saw the incident and called the police.

When officers arrived, Scott was pulling his trousers up and apologised, saying he was “trying to meet people” and did not intend to scare others.

However, Scott’s solicitor Andrew Cogan insisted the defendant was not masturbating in the car.

“Mr Scott was not pleasuring himself. What he was doing was something that is done when looking for liaisons with other men,” he said.

The solicitor said that Scott had gone to the location to meet another man he had met on a dating website.

He added: “I remember from my university days in 1995 having to ask what cottaging was. It is where male members would get together to do their business.

“What Mr Scott does now is use a website, on this he managed to make contact with a man and expected that person to come along.

“It was a secluded road with little traffic and no foot traffic.”

Mr Cogan said that the member of the public must have been in a high-positioned vehicle such as a tractor or a HGV to have seen Scott naked in the boot of his car.

“He has been at that location before and nobody saw him,” said Mr Cogan.

The solicitor said that Scott has expressed a lot of remorse since the incident.

“He has found all of this really embarrassing,” he said.

Mr Cogan believes that Scott’s alcohol consumption was the “underlying cause of exposure”.

The court heard that Scott has since received help from Change, Grow, Live (CGL) and has not been drinking.

“There is no doubt that he has learned his lesson. He will take more care where he liaises with other men in future,” Mr Cogan added.

Scott was hit with a fine of £1,440, and will pay a victim surcharge of £576 and court costs of £85.
