New Cornshire Group adult gaming centre approved in King’s Lynn town centre

A new adult gaming centre is set to come to Lynn despite worries about the impact it will have on “the values of our town”.

The Cornshire Group has been granted planning permission to change the use of the Blue Inc clothing store in the Vancouver Quarter to house the business.

The group plans to install a new internal lobby to prevent noise emanating from the premises, with a “gaming floor” put in place. No changes are touted for the upper floors.

A design and access statement from the group said: “The principles of the unit change of use look to minimise the affects of the change both externally and internally while bringing the unit back into better use and freshening its aesthetic.

“It is considered that the scheme will little impact the current retail environment through increases in light and noise and will enhance the shopping centre.”

However, some concerns were raised during the consultation phase of the application regarding the impact the gaming centre will have on the surrounding area.

Some who responded believe that it is “not needed”, while one response is concerned it would “make a statement about values of our town”.

Another response suggested it may be detrimental for people who struggle with gambling addictions.

Despite that, one comment said the gaming centre will bring “interest and opportunities” to town, with another saying it would prevent the building being boarded up.

A report from West Norfolk Council planning officers said: “Based on the current situation it is considered that the cumulative impact of three adult gaming centres within the town centre would not be excessive given the scale of the town centre of King’s Lynn.”

The borough council approved the plans on July 31.

The gaming centre is set to be open from 9am until 11pm every day, with nobody aged under 18 allowed on the premises.
