Most roles at Hillcrest Primary School were up for grabs, from teachers to the caretaker, and office staff to the headteacher.

The application process gave the youngsters an opportunity to practise their writing skills.

‘Real’ headteacher Matt Try said: “The children coped extremely well with the responsibility that was thrust upon them and, whilst an incredibly fun time was had by staff and students, the children did get an appreciation of the efforts their teachers go to to provide them with their education.

“On the flip-side, the teachers got to experience the classroom through the children’s eyes.”
