Argument between father and son leads to prosecution

A man turned aggressive towards his father after being refused a lift to buy drugs, a court was told.

Lucas Turnbull, 27, raised a chair over his head and slammed it to the floor, hit a table and hurled a bottle across the room.

He left the property in School Lane, Walpole St Peter, and was locked out after his father threatened to call the police.

But Lucas Turnbull turned back and broke a pane of glass as he was kicking and hammering on the kitchen door.

Lynn Magistrates’ Court was told on Thursday that the row had kicked off when Turnbull came downstairs, asking for a lift to Wisbech.

“His father suspected he had been arranging to buy drugs. Accordingly, he said he would not take him. The defendant then became angry and aggressive with his father,” said prosecutor Priscilla Afful-Mensah.

Turnbull pleaded guilty to criminal damage and possession of just over one gram of cannabis.

Hugh Cauthery, mitigating, said his client’s father later regretted asking for the arrest and had not been supportive of the prosecution for the window damage as he felt it was an accident.

For drug possession, Turnbull was given a six-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £22 victim surcharge.

There was no separate penalty for the criminal damage.
