Average age of residents just below 50 meaning shortage of recruitment
The predominant age band in Swaffham is 45-59, according to a new report.
And the report states this is having an effect on the local economy due to a shortage of people moving into jobs within the town.
As part of town council research for the Swaffham Neighbourhood Plan referendum report, it was found the average age in Swaffham is 47-years-old.
This is in comparison with an average age of 42 in the Breckland district and 39 for England.
The report goes on to say “a large per centage of the population is either approaching or in a retirement age band, increasing the demand for supporting services and reducing the recruitment pool in the local economy”.
The report shows 33 per cent of Swaffham people are over 65.
