A chef who was caught drug-driving has been banned from the roads for three years.

Ross Alexander Morgan was stopped by police while driving a Volkswagen Golf on Bexwell Road, Downham.

He failed a roadside drug wipe and was arrested. An evidential blood test showed he had 2.5 micrograms of a cannabis compound per litre of blood in his system. The legal limit for driving is two.

Lynn magistrates heard on Monday that Morgan had been banned for driving with excess alcohol in 2009 and was therefore liable for an extended ban as the latest offence fell within the same 10 year timespan.

Morgan, 33, of Church Road, Barton Bendish and who works for Le Strange Arms in Old Hunstanton, pleaded guilty to drug-driving on September 18.

Alison Muir, mitigating, said Morgan, for health reasons, had occasionally used cannabis. She said, although relatively young, he has suffered three strokes and the drug use “alleviates the symptoms and the slur in his speech”.

She added the ban would present problems getting for him getting to and from work.

Morgan was disqualified from driving for 36 months, fined £250 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.
