Fundraising golfing event at Swaffham Golf Club in memory of ‘loving and caring’ Liam Exley
An event has been organised in memory of a Swaffham youngster, a year on from his cancer diagnosis.
The charity golfing event is being put on in memory of Liam Exley at Swaffham Golf Club on Friday, May 30. He was a member for five years, and around 100 attendees are set to show their support.
On the day, it will mark one year since Liam was diagnosed with Mesothelioma - which he lost his battle to at the start of October.
With the community coming together to show their support, around 15 local businesses have sponsored the event - with their boards being positioned on tee boxes.
The money raised will be going towards an extension of the town cricket club, creating an area named after Liam who “touched so many hearts”.
He loved playing cricket, football and golf.
Jack Crisp, organiser of the event and a family friend, said: “He was such a loving, caring young lad who had time for absolutely everyone.
“Since Liam's diagnosis, his family and friends have raised thousands of pounds for the young cancer unit at Addenbrooke’s hospital (in Cambridge) through football matches, a 72-hole golf day, and some more personal events.
“Liam’s family is a very well-known and loved family in the Swaffham area - the whole family always brings joy to everyone they see, as did Liam.
“The Exley family have been family friends for over 40 years and helped myself and my family in a similar situation many years ago, so organising this event and to raise money in Liam’s memory is an absolute honour to myself.”
