Methwold Auction releases footage of man appearing to steal charity items

The family who run a village auction have released a video of a man who appears to have stolen several items from their venue.

The CCTV footage shows the man picking up an item in Methwold Auction before concealing it in his jacket pocket.

Hayley Stutchbury, who runs the business along with her family – including mum Vicky – told the Lynn News that a number of collectable toy cars were among the pinched products.

They also include various wooden tools, such as chisels, screwdrivers and set squares.

Hayley said that a number of these were given to the auction to sell by a charity.

“We just want him to know that is essentially how low he is going – stealing from a charity,” she said.

“At the end of the day, our vendors put their trust in us to look after their goods while they are on sale here. The responsibility is down to us.

“These people just ruin it for everyone.”

Hayley and her family have released the CCTV footage with hope that somebody will come forward with information regarding the thefts.

Norfolk Police told the Lynn News it does not currently have any information on the matter, although Hayley says it has been reported.

The Methwold Auction only reopened last summer after being closed for a number of months.

The auction, based at High Street, has a refreshment van with burgers, tea and coffee on offer.

Hayley, who attended school in Methwold, and Vicky worked hard to carry out some repair works before the reopening, and were “super excited” to be finished.
