King’s Lynn-based Little Discoverers celebrates 20th anniversary with ‘ultimate children’s party’ at Dersingham Village Hall

Little Discoverers had the best time celebrating 20 years of the charity, by throwing the ultimate children’s party.

The charity hired Dersingham Village Hall and welcomed its past, current and new families, along with friends of the organisation as well.

Little Discoverers provides specialist advice and support for families of pre-school aged children with motor/movement learning development delays or difficulties.

The charity said it was amazing to see so many people enjoying themselves, smiling, laughing, dancing and just having a lovely time in general.

Lauren Tuffs, team member at Little Discoverers, said: “Everywhere you looked there were people catching up or making new friends, children playing games or dancing along to the music. Everyone was in such great spirits.

“We were also lucky enough to have a separate quiet area where some families enjoyed a tea or coffee while still being involved in the celebrations.

On the day a ‘bring and buy’ sale was held, where families donated nearly new items that could be purchased for a donation in the honesty bucket. At the party, £437.50 was raised.

The organisation thanked Josh Maddocks who donated his time as well as children’s entertainer Umbrella Parties.

They also thanked Sweet As Emporium for providing a delicious sweet shop, Rachel Crossley for making and donating cupcakes, cookies and cake, Tropics Two Fish and Chip van, for providing food for the families to purchase along with a free cuddly toy fish with each order and Your Choir for their performance – 55 singers attended free of charge.

The children and their families had been working hard to learn Makaton sign language to Take That’s Rule the World.

They knew they would be performing it together at the party, but they had no idea it would be with a live choir.

Lauren added: “It was such a special moment to look around the room and see a range of ages and abilities all signing and singing together.

“What a wonderful achievement for Little Discoverers to be here, thriving 20 years later. All thanks to our retired chair Katie Fisher, for setting up a service dedicated to giving all children the opportunity to be as independent as possible. All while learning through having fun.

“And of course, the wonderful committee who all volunteer their time freely to keep the charity going.

“We feel incredibly lucky to have had so many lovely people support Little Discoverers over the last 20 years, the charity runs mainly on donations and costs more than £65,000 a year to run.

“Without all these wonderful people who have and continue to raise money for us, the charity simply wouldn’t be here.

“The committee would also like to say a special thanks to the team for organising the party and running the event on the day, they did a fantastic job.”
