Charity football match held in Narborough proven as success and raised money for East Anglian Children's Hospice
A charity football match has returned for a third year running and has raised its record breaking amount.
It was held at Narborough Football Club on Sunday and was held to raise money for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
It was organised by Dillon Walker along with Narborough Social Club and Football Club. He recruited players by putting up posters in the village and on social media.
Dillon said: “The event went very well with a big turnout and a very good atmosphere. The total amount raised was £2,740.”
It was a memorial event for Dillon’s brother Daniel, who was helped by EACH.
“The day was a memorial event for his charity,” said Dillon.
During previous years, a total of £2,200 has been raised, Dillon said that now more than £5,000 has been raised for EACH in memory of his brother.
Kick off started at 11am and after the match, there was a raffle and barbecue for players and supporters to enjoy.
“People came forward and approached me wanting to join in with the day. Either playing, watching, donations of raffle prizes or getting involved in the barbecue,” said Dillon.
The teams, Narborough first team and Narborough veterans, battled it out on the pitch for charity.
EACH provided the teams with the kits to wear for the big game on Sunday, which came in with a score of 5-4 to Narborough first team.
