Swaffham and District Lions Club donates more than £2,000 to five youth groups
The Swaffham and District Lions Club has launched another ‘Lions Den’ this year, donating a pot of money among various youth organisations.
In January, an invitation was sent out to all known youth groups and schools in the town to make a bid for funding in support of any project based on the theme of service.
The aim is to provide support for young people to work together while contributing an element of service to the community. The topic was chosen because the motto of Lions Clubs International is ‘We Serve’.
Five different youth groups applied for funding and the Lions Club approved them all.
The recipients gathered to receive their cheques at the Lions’ stall last Saturday at Swaffham’s Market Place.
The five organisations receiving funding were:
• The Nicholas Hamond Academy Duke of Edinburgh Award fund – £750
• Westacre Youth Theatre – £600
• Heartwood Primary School – £350 for litter-picking equipment
• 2nd Swaffham Guides – £500 for camping equipment
• Swaffham Rugby Club youth section – £190 for nets and bibs
