Community gives thanks in virtual celebration for Love West Norfolk day
Community groups came together to give their thanks to the people of West Norfolk for a slightly different Love West Norfolk day at the weekend.
After the struggles of the last year, campaign organisers decided this year's celebration would focus on giving recognition to those who have made a difference to the lives of others, by expressing gratitude.
James Bagge, Love West Norfolk’s ambassador said: “Thank you to everyone who got involved in Love West Norfolk day. It offered us an opportunity to reflect and think about those who have lent a helping hand at such a difficult time, and there was so much heartfelt gratitude expressed for others.
“It was a pleasure to read the many messages, and it is clear that people in west Norfolk have gone above and beyond to support others. So once again, I would like to echo those words and say – thanks, west Norfolk.”
Campaigners launched a Thanks West Norfolk film featuring the Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk Lady Dannatt MBE, MP Liz Truss, MP James Wild and various community leaders. The video can be viewed online here: https://youtu.be/MG3UfH_TrmA
This year's celebration took place virtually with individuals and organisations including King’s Lynn Samaritans, King’s Lyn Park Run, Fairstead Community Shop, KES Academy Sports, Norfolk Chambers of Commerce, and the College of West Anglia all contributing.
Messages of thanks were shared via the Love West Norfolk Twitter account, which was taken over by the borough council, the QEH, Freebridge Community Housing, and Visit West Norfolk throughout Sunday.
The Mayor of King's Lynn, T/Superintendent Lou Provart, West Norfolk Councillor Geoff Hipperson, Father Adrian Ling, Councillor Brian Long, and Lorraine Gore also shared messages of gratitude to the community.
A Thank You Wall was unveiled featuring messages submitted by the community prior to the day, and the Love West Norfolk heroes – which were nominated by the community last year – were featured online.
