Community rallies to buy new playground in Holme Hale

Committee members are rallying together to buy Holme Hale a new village playground.

Members of the Holme Hale Playing Field Trust are giving their fundraising efforts one final push after totalling almost £26,000.

Secretary and grant coordinator, Wendy McNeil says the committee needs £32,000 to complete their project and build a new playground in the village.

She said: “I joined the committee last year and suggested refurbishing and improving the village’s playground because it was looking outdated.

“Since then, we have been doing everything we can to raise money to buy new equipment.

“We have been applying for grants, going to local businesses and running fundraising events.

“We held a fete with tractors on display, this was wonderful. There was also children’s games and refreshments including a barbecue. It was a real family affair.”

The committee, which has already sought three quotes on the new village playground, is planning on installing two towers, two swing sets, spinning play equipment as well as a nest swing.

Ms McNeil added: “We are hoping to have another committee meeting soon to discuss our updates.

“If all goes well and we are able to secure our total, we are hoping to start work on the playground around September or October time.

“This depends on how long it takes us to raise the rest of the money needed and whether the company are free to start the work.

“It always seems the final fundraising push is always the hardest. We want to see our project completed and a new playground in our village.

“Coming into the village at the moment, the playground looks a mess but this should all change once our project is complete.”
