Harpley Craft Club has created a Remembrance Day display in their village

A craft club has created a display for Remembrance Day.

Harpley Craft Club which is run by Harpley Community Events is “extremely” proud to share their latest project for Remembrance Day with a beautiful hand-crocheted and knitted poppy display at the heart of the village, within the Almshouses garden.

The display consists of a flow of poppies, a seated soldier with a beautiful carved wooden sign ‘Lest we forget’ along it with a tribute to all the fallen soldiers of Harpley from both the First and Second World Wars.

This project has prompted many emotions within the craft group as they see and feel the loss of our heroes, with some losing different generations of family members across both wars.

The group encourages visitors to call in at the local village pub The Rose & Crown, to contribute to the British Legion by purchasing a poppy, some of which have been hand crocheted by the club.

The idea of the Craft Club started in 2022 as a way of bringing the Harpley community together, creating a lovely network of people, and bringing their talents together.

New friendships have been born and many new skills shared.

The community and the Craft Club are made up of all ages, from school age through to retirement, and getting together at Harpley Village Hall gives them a central meeting place to create valuable, worthwhile projects which they share across both their village and the wider community.

The group has said they are extremely fortunate to have had support from the Norfolk Foundation as they have supported them with vital funding through grants to enable them to meet up and get the club off the ground.
