Dazzling displays as Luminate Sandringham trail finally opens

If you need an escape from day-to-day reality at the end of this most miserable of years, then the answer may just be on your doorstep.

Families flocked to Sandringham last night for the opening of the Luminate light trail through the woodlands of the royal estate.

The display had been due to begin last month, but was put on hold following the imposition of the second national lockdown.

But, as Norfolk remained in tier two following the first review of the current restrictions, visitors of all ages were able to enjoy the colourful show whilst maintaining the necessary social distancing.

And the queue of groups waiting to see the spectacle suggested it will be a popular attraction over the festive period.

Luminate director Daniel Maycock said: “The light trail actually really suits socially distancing rules – as people want to be with their own ‘bubble’, and it’s all outside in the fresh air.

“We have had to ‘re-imagine’ some of the interactive elements, so there are less touch points but we feel we have created a memorable trail, with something for all ages.”

With it being outside, as autumn turns to winter, you’ll naturally need to wrap up well if you want to see the trail for yourself. Sturdy footwear is also a must.

And, of course, the trail is naturally most suited to families, particularly with young children. But, given the trials that we’ve all had to endure in 2020, it feels like a break from real life that we all need.

Luminate Sandringham is on until January 17. Slots have to be booked in advance and this weekend, along with this Wednesday, December 23, are already sold out.
