Dersingham drug-driver caught out by insurance check, court told
A lapse in abstaining from taking drugs for four years cost a Dersingham man his driving licence and a £736 court bill this week.
David James Cordy admitted he had been "an idiot" during the incident last autumn when he faced magistrates in Lynn on Monday.
The court heard Cordy was stopped by police in Coburg Street, Lynn, after a check on the Peugeot 307 he was driving revealed that he was not insured.
The bench was also told that he failed a roadside drug wipe and was arrested.
An evidential blood test showed that he had more than seven times the limit for the cocaine derivative benzoylecgonine in his system.
A maximum of 50 micrograms of the substance per litre of blood is permitted.
Cordy, of Holyrood Drive, Dersingham, pleaded guilty to drug-driving, having no insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with his licence on September 27 last year.
In mitigation, he told the bench: “I went out with friends. I hadn’t done anything for four years.
“I was just an idiot and take full responsibility for it.”
He was banned from driving for 12 months. He was fined £310 for drug-driving and £310 for the insurance offence.
There was no separate penalty for the licence offence but an endorsement will be recorded.
