Discounts and exploring on offer for Swaffham through Breckland app

A Breckland town’s app was launched on Tuesday, which allows people to explore Swaffham and get discounts in stores.

The tourist app will have some clips narrated by Stephen Fry as 360 degree videos are offered as part of the package.

Breckland councillor Shirley Matthews said: “People will be able to look at it when they are in the town.

“There is a treasure hunt in which you can get the discounts in the town if you collect enough coins.”

In total, there will be 100 “virtual stars” hidden across the district, and with every 10 collected, discounts will be earned for independent businesses in the town.

The app will be initially launched on iPads only according to Breckland councillor Paul Darby.

He added: “Wherever you are, you can look at it and see a virtual 3D map, say of the market place for instance.

“In time they will get it down to other devices as well as iPads.”

The app can be found by searching Breckworld in the App Store.

As well as Swaffham, the app will also cover the towns of Dereham, Thetford and Watton.

Cllr Matthews said: “It’s also a play thing as well as a practical app to use.”

She also said a business in Swaffham helped make the app, which was launched at Thetford’s Ancient House museum on Tuesday morning.
