She will not be standing for Breckland in May, Mr Sherwood confirmed.

Ed Colman will be standing instead having served the town as a county councillor.

Mr Sherwood added: “On a personal level, I am really proud to have served the people of the community for 20 years. I first started when I was 36-years-old and still enjoy it.

"I have served at all levels of the council, and the most rewarding thing is the individual cases.

"Local residents get in touch when we are able to champion things within the community which makes a big difference.

"There are big challenges in a community and we cannot satisfy everyone all the time but once we are elected, we are there to represent the whole community and carry out what is in the best interests of the town."
