Downham man jailed for ignoring court order

A Downham man has been jailed after twice breaching a suspended sentence order.

Shane Lee Wilson went to prison for eight weeks on Thursday.

He was back before town magistrates on two matters – trespassing on the railway at Downham and using threatening words or behaviour in Lynn’s Lidl store.

He pleaded guilty to both offences, with the public order matter breaching a suspended sentence imposed for bike theft and going equipped.

The bench was told it was a second breach of the order, which was originally for 12 weeks, suspended for 18 months and then extended to two years in December 2020 for a further offence.

Wilson, of James Scott Close, Downham had 111 offences on his record.

The trespass offence occurred on August 2, 2020. He had a row with a female he was with before ripping a bin off the wall and throwing it on to the tracks.

He then threw his rucksack on to the tracks before jumping down, retrieving it and crossing the tracks to the opposite platform.

During the public order offence in Lidl, the 26-year-old was shouting and acting aggressively towards store staff who had asked him to leave as he was banned.

He goaded them to call the Street Rangers because he would swear at them too. Street Rangers did attend and he continued to shout before walking out. He was arrested nearby in Little Norfolk Street.

Andrew Cogan, mitigating, said the trespass had followed an argument with his partner.

“He was very angry about it and wanted to get as far away as he could as quick as he could.”

Mr Cogan accepted that shouting and swearing in the street and in shops was not to be taken lightly but Wilson had been working with probation officers on improving his conduct.

As well as having the suspended sentence term reduced and activated, Wilson was fined £25 for trespass and £25 for using threatening behaviour.
