Downham Market's lockdown litter problem
Nationwide it has been reported that littering has increased since the pandemic. Downham is no different.
This image was taken on the Bluebell Estate in Downham, showing that the surrounding grassland is strewn with discarded plastic, cardboard and alcohol bottles.
Claire Jones, 29, who lives near Bluebell Close said: “I see it everywhere when I’m walking my dog even in the parks. Since the first lockdown people don’t seem to care about litter.
"Some residential areas are being used like mini landfills."
A website that has grown in popularity since the start of lockdown, littergram.co.uk is a platform like popular social media site Instagram, where locals can post litter they see all over the UK, with many recent posts in West Norfolk.
This includes a mattress dumped in Castle Rising that one user said: "Still hasn't been moved."
