E-scooter incident led to assault by King's Lynn man on police officer

A Lynn man has been fined for assaulting a police officer in the town centre.

George Wells, 24, had stopped when he saw the officer speaking to a friend of Wells about an e-scooter riding offence.

At Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, prosecutor Bethany Richards said Wells grabbed the officer’s arm and “made every effort” to stop them carrying out their duty.

“A bystander intervened and [Wells] made good his escape,” she added. “The officer described the pull as being with some force.”

Charlotte Winchester, mitigating, said her client had seen his friend with the police officer and “stupidly” decided to stop and see what was happening.

“The officer was wanting to take the scooter from his friend and he felt that was unfair,” she added.

Wells had told her that after the grapple he had been told to go and he’d left on his bike.

The defendant, of Browning Place, was fined £80 and ordered to pay £84 in costs and victim surcharge.
