Festive season comes to Downham Market as Christmas lights are switched on
The festive season has well and truly started in Downham after the town held its Christmas lights switch-on event at the weekend.
Local businesses and charities came together on Sunday, leading up to the big switch-on in the evening, courtesy of the town’s two young Halloween fancy dress winners, Alfie Reeve and Lola Squires.
Live music was performed on stage as well as the Hilgay Silver Band in the Town Square. School choirs from Hillcrest Primary School and Nelson Academy pupils were joined on stage by a puppet version of the nativity story to the tune of Bohemian Rhapsody. Downham Amateur Dramatic Society were also entertaining the crowds.
Claire Dornan, of Downham town council, said: “Inside the Town Hall, faces were glittered and painted, and a wide range of local crafters and cooks brought their individual, beautiful and useful gifts for our winter craft fair.
“An enormous thank you from the town council to everyone who helped make this event one to remember, and to the people of Downham and surrounding villages, who once again proved this is a great place to live and work.”
