Free food classes set to start at Eternity in Downham Market
After the popularity of food sessions across Lynn, Eternity in Downham will be hosting its own weekly drop-in meetings to help residents trying to make ends meet.
The scheme has been helped by Lily, a service owned by West Norfolk Council, which aids people who are feeling lonely or isolated by supporting them and connecting them to organisations that can help in the area.
The meetings will start at the premises in Sovereign Way at 9.30am and 11.30am every Thursday starting on September 21.
Each week residents can pick up tips about how to cook healthy and tasty food without breaking the bank.
Every session will have its own theme including fakeaway meals, low-calorie cooking and Christmas savings
The scheme will run for 12 weeks and includes live cooking demonstrations by a professional chef.
Part of the aim of the project is to give families tips on how to not only save money, but do it healthily during the cost of living crisis.
Cllr Jo Rust, cabinet member for people and communities, said: “Venues in Gaywood, Lynn town centre, North and South Lynn have hosted nearly 50 of these cooking sessions already.
“I’m pleased to see that Food for Thought is now coming to Downham Market as it’s important for us to offer this support to as many of our residents as possible across the borough.
“The increasing cost of living continues to affect all of us. These free sessions are sociable and family friendly, children are welcome to attend with an adult.
“People can turn up at any point during the session, and stay for as long as they can, but also get to taste food cooked by a professional chef.”
