Greggs hopes to open in old Swaffham QD Furniture store
A popular bakery chain has revealed plans to open in one of our town centres.
Greggs is seeking permission from Breckland Council to move into the former QD Furniture Store on Swaffham’s Market Place.
The budget retailer closed last December after just over two years in the town, and the unit has been vacant since.
Currently, people living in Swaffham must travel to Downham or Dereham to reach their nearest Greggs outlet, following the closure of a branch at the town’s service station.
The proposals would see part of the pavement in front of the shop used for outdoor customer seating, with two tables and eight chairs installed on the street.
This will be the 29th Greggs shop in Norfolk following the recent opening of a new branch in Norwich, at the former HSBC bank on Mile Cross Lane.
The expansion of the chain across the region has also resulted in rumours of new openings, which saw a fake letter widely circulated on social media stating the company was set to move into a vacant shop in Bungay.
Greggs dispelled the claims - but a spokesman added it was always open to the possibility of launching new stores.
