Hunstanton residents come out in hundreds for 2022 Remembrance Day parade organised by Royal British Legion

Residents of all ages turned out in their hundreds to mark Remembrance Sunday in Hunstanton.

The town’s Royal British Legion branch was the primary organiser of this year’s event, which saw around 600 people turn out to honour soldiers of past conflicts.

Scouts, Girl Guides, Beavers, St John Ambulance, Cadets and the RNLI were among the groups to take part in a march - as well as American servicemen linked to Hunstanton.

Wreaths were laid at the Hunstanton Cenotaph.

Jan Roomes, clerk for Hunstanton Town Council, said: “We’re very thankful to the Royal British Legion for putting on the event.

“It was very well attended.”

Smithdon High also had representatives for the occasion, with Year 11 students Olivia Raines and Tommy Lee being joined by head teacher Amanda Gibbins.

Mrs Gibbins wore medals belonging to her grandfather Horace Haynes from Ten Mile Bank, who fought at the Battle of the Somme during the First World War.

She said: “It’s hugely important to be involved with the local community acts of remembrance, and to remember that we stand, and have stood, alongside the community of Hunstanton for many years.”
