Hunstanton RNLI lifeboat aids teenage kayaker after coastguard request launch
An RNLI lifeboat gave assistance to a teenage kayaker off Hunstanton yesterday.
The RNLI stated that on Tuesday, May 17 at 7.30pm UK Coastguard requested launch of a lifeboat to go to the aid of a kayaker in trouble off Hunstanton,
Hunstanton lifeboat “Spirit of West Norfolk” launched on service and was quickly on scene a few hundred metres offshore.
The teenager was having trouble getting ashore against the wind and tide.
He was assisted back to the beach and the lifeboat returned to station.
It was reported that visibility was good, sea state slight and weather was fine.
General coastal safety tips from the RNLI are:
• 1. Check the weather and tide times.
• 2. Read signs. Be aware of local hazards, ie; sandbanks and strong tidal currents.
• 3. Carry a means of calling for help.
• 4. If you see someone in danger dial 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard who will page the RNLI. Advice to dog owners: if your dog is in trouble in the water do not go in after it, call the coastguard.
