Hunstanton youngster raises highest total yet for children's charity

A youngster from Hunstanton has raised her greatest sum yet for charity.

Hannah Burton, 11, has been fundraising for Children with Cancer UK for a number of years, through the sale of her handmade paper roses, and last year proved to be her most successful yet, collecting almost £2,700.

The Smithdon High School pupil presented the cheque to Lady Romney, who accepted it on behalf of the charity, at the Honeystone pub on Tuesday.

Hannah’s grandmother Monica Burton said: “Her total this year was £2,690.03 and her mum and the rest of her family are very proud of her.”

She said Hannah’s aim was to beat her previous total of £2,517.15, and now she is hoping this year’s efforts will go even further.

Monica said: “She has been fundraising on behalf of her two cousins, one with Neuroblastoma and another with Leukaemia.”

Hannah has been collecting funds for charity for a number of years, but it was when she started creating flowers that it really “snowballed”.

Monica said Hannah “loves” fundraising, which also includes table-top and car boot sales.

She would “much rather do that than sit in front of the computer all day”, Monica added.

The family thanked the town’s Princess Theatre who gave £200, and the Honeystone for raising more than £1,000 and for hosting the presentation.
