Open verdict recorded into death of West Norfolk teenager Evan James Turner
An open verdict has been recorded into the death of a West Norfolk teenager.
The inquest of Evan James Turner,14, concluded at the Norfolk Coroner's Court in Norwich today, following his tragic death in October last year.
The court heard that the teenager was discovered by a neighbour on Leete Way, West Winch, after he was seen on gym equipment in his back garden after returning from school.
The neighbour, Daniel Devitt, attempted life saving CPR on Evan after calling emergency services.
Evan's father, Adam Turner, arrived shortly after and took over CPR on his son, but the critical care team pronounced him dead at the scene, the hearing was told.
Reports from the police and Lynn's Springwood High School, where Evan was a pupil, said they had "no concerns" and school-friends described him as "well liked".
His aunt and grandmother expressed sorrow at Evan's death and his father has set up a fundraising campaign in his honour.
Evan's iPhone was examined by digital forensics officers and no evidence was found to suggest that he wished to take his own life.
In the days before his death Evan has contacted his friends via FaceTime and Xbox as usual and the taxi driver who took him to school noted "nothing abnormal" in his behaviour on the day of his death.
Senior coroner Jacqueline Lake recorded an open verdict.
She said: "There is no evidence to suggest that Evan intended to die from his actions.
"His death may have been an unintended consequence of his actions and the evidence does not reveal his intention so I will have to conclude the cause of death as an open verdict.
"I offer my condolences to Evan's family particularly his mother and father."
