West Norfolk MP Terry Jermy is ‘delighted’ with Rachel Reeves’ Budget
Terry Jermy is “delighted” with this afternoon’s Budget announcements - and has taken the opportunity to aim a swipe at his predecessor Liz Truss.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves has set out a Budget which will increase taxes by £40billion which she promises will “fix the foundations” of the economy and repair public finances.
Mr Jermy, the Labour MP for South West Norfolk, is pleased with the announcements - in stark contrast to his North West Norfolk counterpart James Wild, who has accused the Government of going back on its election pledges.
Ms Reeves claims a “black hole” left by the Conservatives requires tens of billions of additional taxes.
“I am delighted with the Budget announcements that seek to address so many of the challenges that are impacting residents in my constituency,” Mr Jermy told the Lynn News.
“Despite the obvious difficulties with public finances, in part due to my predecessor, Liz Truss, I am pleased that this new Labour Government has started the process of implementing change.
“I stood on a clear commitment to improve our health and social care services and the commitment in relation to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn is particularly welcome, plus the additional funding for adult social care.
“The significant extra funds for special educational needs was unexpected but very welcome and the £25billion increase for the NHS over the next two years will increase the number of NHS appointments and start to chip away at the awful NHS waiting lists, built up after 14 years of Conservative government.”
Mr Wild’s comments, meanwhile, suggest he is frustrated by a lack of support for West Norfolk people - including thousands of pensioners who were recently stripped of their winter fuel allowance.
