King Charles opens new library named after him at Flitcham Primary Academy
Pupils and staff were excited to welcome the King to their school to open a new library last week.
On Friday, Flitcham Church of England Primary Academy – which is on the Sandringham Estate – had a special visit from King Charles to open its new library, called The Coronation Library in his honour.
The whole school was delighted to welcome King Charles, officials said.
The King met with pupils, staff and members of the school community who had been involved in the library project.
Jane Gardener, executive head teacher, said: “It was a delightful way to celebrate this wonderful new addition to our school facilities and we were all so honoured that His Majesty opened the new library for us.”
Having identified a lack of library facilities at the school, the Diocese of Norwich Educational Academies Trust (DNEAT) – which runs Flitcham Primary Academy – had invested in a new log cabin-style building, constructed by local builders Anglia Log Cabins to house a purpose-built library.
The Norfolk Children’s Book Centre was commissioned by the PTA (parent-teacher association) to provide a complete overhaul service of all the books within the school and to supply new books for any gaps identified.
The school’s PTA (parent-teacher association), led by Mrs Haire, worked tirelessly with many fundraising events to raise more than £3,000 which was spent on the refurbishment and supply of new books.
“The children have been very excited to be able to choose from the latest selection of both fiction and non-fiction texts, taking books home to read and being able to read books in school to support class studies,” a spokesperson added.
“The Sandringham Federation of Schools are thankful for their close association both with the local churches and the Royal Sandringham Estate.”
