King's Lynn 21-year-old banned a second time for drug-driving

A 21-year-old Lynn man has been received a second disqualification for drug-driving.

George Harry Hopkins was banned for 14 months in June.

And he was before magistrates again on Thursday to plead guilty to drug-driving in Windsor Park, Lynn, on June 11 - two weeks before the previous court hearing.

Prosecutor Richard Greenhough said police stopped Hopkins in a Ford Fiesta as they recognised him from the earlier drug-driving arrest.

He failed a roadside drug wipe and a later test showed 5.3 micrograms of a cannabis metabolite per litre of blood. The specified limit is two.

Hopkins, of Pleasant Court, also did not have a full licence and had no insurance.

He pleaded guilty to those offences too.

Mr Greenhough told the court that the defendant told police: "I've only driven it once.

"I shouldn't have done it, please don't take my car away."

Hopkins, a provisional licence holder, said he needed to get a wheel fixed and no one would supervise him while driving.

In mitigation, solicitor Ruth Johnson said the previous drug-driving offence was in September 2019.

She added: "He assures me that cannabis is not an issue and it's recreational use - he's not a regular user."

Unemployed Hopkins was banned for one year and fined £120 each for drug-driving and having no insurance. There was no separate penalty for the licence matter.

He was also ordered to pay £50 costs and £34 victim surcharge.
