A Gaywood car dealer has been banned from the roads after he admitted drink-driving.

Lynn magistrates were yesterday told that a ban would have a detrimental effect on Glenn William Pratt’s livelihood.

The court heard that Pratt was in a Range Rover in Lynn’s Tuesday Market Place during the early hours of October 28 when police stopped him.

A roadside breath test proved positive and a later evidential test showed 54 micrograms in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Pratt, 52, of Dairy Way, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

Mitigating, Andrew Cogan said: “Whilst he accepts that he had been drinking in The Bank House, The Globe and Soul Café, he felt fine to drive. All that he was intending to do was drive home.”

He added that Pratt had also received some “extremely upsetting news” about the health of his 80-year-old mother.

“The long and short of it is that he went out to have a couple of beers, no more than that,” said Mr Cogan.

“He’s a car dealer. His business is likely to suffer because he’s going to have to rely on other people.

“He can still go to auctions but will be reliant on others.”

Pratt was banned from driving for 15 months, which can be reduced by 15 weeks on successful completion of a rehabilitation course.

He was also fined £461 and ordered to pay £85 costs, plus a £46 victim surcharge.
