KING'S LYNN FIRE: Operation scaled back as blaze at charity shop appears to have been extinguished
The operation to extinguish a large blaze in a charity shop in Lynn's High Street appears to have been scaled back this afternoon (Thursday, October 18) with one fire crew still on scene.
A cordon remains in place, however, near to the Sue Ryder shop, which has been gutted by flames and smoke.
West Norfolk Council's street teams are now beginning a clean up of the area around the scene.
A post on the authority's Twitter feed a short time ago said: "Council Leader Brian Long thanks emergency services, EA and council staff for their rapid response to the fire in High Street. Thanks to their efforts damage has been kept to a minimum."
Earlier today, Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service said nine fire crews had been allocated to the incident, which broke out at around 10.30am this morning.
Roads and car parks around the scene remain closed and tonight's West Norfolk Council meeting has been cancelled.
Lynn's register office and several businesses were closed for the rest of the day.
The borough council says anyone who lives in a building affected by the fire and who is unable to access their homes should contact their landlord first.
Anyone who needs emergency accommodation, and who cannot be helped by family or friends, is advised to contact the council's emergency out of hours housing team on 01553 616601.
