Former captain Blair Rule, who selected the worthy cause as his chosen charity of the year, presented a cheque for £5,082 to Alison Edwards from the Cystic Fibrosis Trust last week.

The money was raised during a 72 hole golf marathon last year.

Ms Edwards said Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a genetic condition affecting more than 10,400 people in the UK.

She said: “You are born with CF and cannot catch it later in life, but one in 25 of us carries the faulty gene that causes it, usually without knowing.

“While people with CF often look healthy on the outside, each individual is battling their own range of symptoms on a daily basis.

“The gene affected by CF controls the movement of salt and water in and out of cells.

“People with cystic fibrosis experience a build-up of thick sticky mucus in the lungs, digestive system and other organs, causing a wide range of challenging symptoms affecting the entire body.”

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is a UK-wide charity dedicated to supporting those affected by the condition.

Since it was set up in 1964, the trust has been working to promote research and clinical care as well as providing practical support and advice to people with CF and their families.

Ms Edwards added: “We are so incredibly grateful to King’s Lynn Gold Club for their amazing support over the last year.

“We feel honoured that we were chosen as one of their charities of the year not only to receive funds but also very much needed awareness.”
