King's Lynn man fined for breaching Covid restrictions
A Lynn man has been fined £200 for breaching coronavirus regulations.
Samuel Oscar Smyth was arrested for being drunk and disorderly at the town’s bus station on January 5.
He was charged with that offence and being a person living in a Tier 4 area leaving his home without reasonable excuse.
The 27-year-old, of Merchants Terrace, London Road, pleaded guilty to both matters when he appeared before Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
The hearing was told that Smyth was spotted on CCTV at Lynn police station. When an officer attended, he was seen to be waving his arms around, gesturing aggressively towards a bus driver and removing clothing.
Smyth, who was unrepresented in court, said: “I’ve done a massive mistake. I’m ashamed to be backhere.”
He said he’d made big steps in improving his life and read a good reference from a project worker.
As well as the fine for the restrictions offence, Smyth was ordered to pay £34 victim surcharge.
There was no separate penalty for the drunk and disorderly matter.
Previous fines totalling £700 were remitted by the court because they were imposed in Smyth’s absence without knowledge of his means.
