‘Last chance’ to save East Winch village hall as it is under threat of closure
A village hall has its “last chance” to be saved as it is under threat of closing permanently unless three people step up to become trustees.
East Winch Village Hall, on Station Road, could close down due to a lack of trustees coming forward to support the building, which hosts a number of groups and events.
There will be one final “emergency meeting” on Monday, March 31 at 6.30pm at East Winch Village Hall.
The meeting is open to all the residents of East Winch and West Bilney as well as any groups that use the village hall.
The village hall, which was built in 1958, is a registered charity which doesn’t receive funding from the parish or borough council.
Treasurer of the village hall Jacci Allen said: “The existing trustees will put forward the resolution, to close the hall and shut down the trust.
“Under the Trust Deed for the hall, we are required to have at least four trustees. We suddenly find ourselves with only three, two of which also wish to step down.”
Once the hall is closed, the land will have to be returned to its present owners and assets have to be transferred to another charity that works for the benefit of East Winch and West Bilney residents.
If this happens, Ms Allen said that it is unlikely that East Winch will have access to such a large communal space within the village again.
The hall hosts a number of groups, including a mum and baby group, a karate group and a Slimming World group to name a few.
