Latest eye-care technology for independent King's Lynn opticians

An independent opticians in King's Lynn has become one of the first in the area to offer the latest in eye-care technology.

Wigram and Ware Opticians, on Blackfriars Street in King’s Lynn, is the first independent opticians in the area to launch the Optomap in practice, a revolutionary imaging system which helps to spot early signs of eye disease.

Optometrist and co-owner of Wigram and Ware, Linda Vernon-Wood, said: “After we celebrated our 100th anniversary in January, we felt it was the perfect opportunity to invest in the very best technology for our patients, to give them an even more thorough eye care service.

“We are really proud to offer our patients the Optomap at our King’s Lynn practice, a really unique imaging system which can capture ultra-widefield red/green and autofluorescence images, along with the RetinaDuo scan which will soon be available at both practices."

The independent opticians has been serving West Norfolk since 1920, and five years ago, they were the first in the area to introduce an OCT machine. The Nidek Retina Scan Duo will soon be available in both Wigram and Ware practices, meaning patients are able to receive the best imaging technology possible.

The OCT equipment provides a 3D scan of the back of the eye and enables practitioners to gain a much clearer picture of the health of patients’ eyes.

Co-owner of Wigram and Ware and Optometrist, Sarah Baldock, said: “The combination of the retinal imaging system as well as a three dimensional scan can detect early changes which helps us to protect you and your eyesight, so it’s something we’re very much looking forward to offering our patients.”

Patients can take advantage of the technology in addition to their routine eye examination with their optometrist.

The team at Wigram and Ware has reminded patients of the importance of eyecare, as well as reassuring the community that they remain open for appointments, despite the announcement of new lockdown restrictions. The opticians will still be operating as it was before the new national restrictions were introduced, offering eye examinations to patients who need access to eye-care.

Visits are by appointment only, and all patients must wear a suitable face covering at all times. To book an appointment please visit https://www.wigware.co.uk/
