Launch date for Swaffham leisure centre reopening announced
A refurbished sports hall and gym at a school site will be reopened to the community in April.
The leisure centre at Swaffham’s Nicholas Hamond Academy has had a £1.5m revamp which will include a new activity room, gym and reception.
Having temporarily closed to the public in mid-September 2019, the refurbishment has been delivered by the Academy Transformation Trust (ATT).
Director of the Trust, Edward Thomas said: “We are delighted to update the school and wider local Swaffham community that the newly refurbished sports hall and gym will now reopen in early April 2020.
“Upon completion of the refurbishment project, both the academy and the community will have access to the new sports building that they truly deserve.”
Mr Thomas said the reopening is slightly later than was originally anticipated due to “short term delays”.
The leisure centre was originally expected to be closed for 20 weeks.
Breckland Council will be circulating a full review of leisure offerings in the town later this year.
Parkwood Leisure worked in cooperation with the ATT to transform the refurbished centre, which will host a 34-station gym.
Public classes and private club events for residents will be available.
