King’s Lynn estate agents Sowerbys moves into new Bank Chambers premises
Moving day arrived for Sowerbys Estate Agents in Lynn as the branch has relocated to a historic premises, Bank Chambers, on the Tuesday Market Place.
The Norfolk property specialist has lovingly restored the prominent grade II listed building on the square.
Lloyd Sandy, managing director, said: “This is a hugely exciting time for the team. Bank Chambers is an intriguing and well-recognised building in the town so we are delighted to call it home.
“We always strive to deliver an unrivalled customer experience – and that goes beyond simply a service to help people buy, sell or let a home. At Sowerbys we want to offer a personal experience and I believe that starts with having a wide open and inviting front door.
“Our home at No.1 King Street has been a good friend to us, but in Bank Chambers we have the space to create a comfortable customer lounge and innovative approach to showcasing the local property market.
“Throughout the restoration work we uncovered some incredible local history and that too is on display for visitors to enjoy.”
The building had sat empty for a number of years and the restoration comes thanks to a team of local professionals including New Space Builders, Betts & Co decorators, and interior designer Collette Hanlon of Homestagers, Premier Electrics and Plumbing, Architect Daniel Wallage of Wait and Wollage.
Thanks also goes to Steven King, the senior listed buildings officer who was equally passionate to save and preserve the wonderful character of the property.
When the team got the keys to the iconic building last year no one was expecting to uncover what they found. From the names of local people etched in the window shutter, to what is considered to be the first wallpaper hung on the medieval timber frame wall still in place, and the original brick wall and beams dating to 1480.
Lex Hastings, Lynn branch manager, said: “Number 1 King Street has been a trusting home to us for many years, but as our team has expanded, we have certainly needed more space.
“I speak on behalf of the entire team when I say, we are very proud and excited to be moving to a building of such history and prominent location within the town.
“Sowerbys is known for restoring listed buildings, sympathetically creating unique spaces for customers and staff to enjoy. Bank Chambers is no exception, and I truly cannot wait to show clients and customers the intriguing local history we have uncovered in this iconic building.”
Max Sowerby, managing director, said: “Like with all our branches, we want to create an environment where the team are inspired to work and develop – and most importantly, a space where our clients will receive the most unique customer experience.
“In my eyes it’s one of the most attractive buildings in King’s Lynn.
“I was saddened that it had simply been let go and I felt, being the face of the marketplace, it deserved the time and investment to re-shine as a significant landmark in King's Lynn's incredible history – for everyone to enjoy.
Lloyd added: “Being a part of the community is an integral part of our business ethos. We recognise those who have called our town home before us and we take huge pride in not only recognising that heritage, but in writing our own history and ensuring the spirit of our town lives on for generations to come.
“In Bank Chambers we have created a space for everyone who steps through our door to enjoy. So please pop in, have a look around this incredible building and we’ll put the kettle on.”
