Downham Market man Wilberforce Rotich caught driving while disqualified in Watlington
A 34-year-old has been fined and disqualified from driving after being caught behind the wheel while already banned.
Wilberforce Rotich, of Marchant Court in Downham, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance when he appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
He committed the offences on September 3, when police caught him in his Mercedes on Thieves Bridge Road at Watlington.
It transpired he had been banned in August after accumulating too many points on his licence.
He originally claimed he did not know he was disqualified, but eventually admitted the offence.
Mitigating, duty solicitor Andrew Cogan said Rotich had passed his driving test in Kenya - but upon moving to Downham, he switched it for a provisional UK licence, and therefore only had a provisional.
He co-operated fully with the police, Mr Cogan emphasised.
Magistrates disqualified Rotich from driving for a further seven months, including the one month he has remaining on his current ban.
He will also pay a £184 fine, £74 victim surcharge and £85 in court costs.
