Pentney man fined for failing to properly store gun ammunition

Police acting on a tip-off found live shotgun cartridges lying unsecured in various places in a Pentney man’s home.

John Fallis, 37, had a firearms certificate but his storage of ammunition was not complying with the requirements of it.

Lynn Magistrates’ Court was told on Thursday that Fallis had not responded to any of the proceedings against him so far.

The bench decided to proceed with the case and found it proven in his absence.

Prosecutor Denise Holland said Fallis answered the door of his home in Church Close when officers called on August 13, 2020.

He showed them to a downstairs cabinet with the keys in the lock and two further cabinets upstairs which were also insecure.

Live shotgun cartridges were found there and in an open cardboard box in a bedside drawer.

Mrs Holland said there was no issue with the air rifles and shotgun which Fallis held.

She added: “He has been charged with not complying with a requirement of his certificate in that he failed to store ammunition correctly.”

Fallis was fined £300 and ordered to pay £250 costs plus a £34 victim surcharge.

An order was made for the forfeiture of the ammunition seized.
