Man in 20s arrested for immigration offences after suspicious driving near Downham Market

A police stop following “suspicious” driving led to a man being arrested for immigration offences.

Downham officers seized a car yesterday after spotting it being driven without a valid licence.

They were on patrol in Wereham during the evening and saw the vehicle, a Mercedes, being driven suspiciously.

When they stopped and spoke to the driver, he could only produce what police believe to be a fake licence.

The car was searched and the man in his 20s was subsequently arrested for immigration offences, possession of cannabis and ID document offences under Operation Foxtail.

He was taken to the Lynn Police Investigation centre for questioning, and remains in custody.
