Huntingdon man Sam Bullock in King’s Lynn court after drug-driving in Downham Market

A 24-year-old was caught drug-driving after officers discovered several “large white rocks” inside his packet of cigarettes.

On July 23 last year, Sam Bullock was driving along Bexwell Road in Downham, close to McDonald’s, when he was pulled over by the police.

He returned a negative breath test, but failed a drug swipe - and later investigations revealed he had 580mcg of amphetamine per litre of blood.

The legal limit to drive is 250mcg.

After arresting Bullock, officers conducted a search which unveiled a number of white large rocks inside a cigarette packet.

They suspected it was a Class A drug, although tests revealed it was also amphetamine - a Class B substance.

Bullock, of The Glades in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, where he pleaded guilty to drug-driving and possession of the drugs.

At the time of his offence, he had a passenger in his car - while he was also handed a driving ban as recently as October, also for drug-driving.

Mitigating, duty solicitor Andrew Cogan said that Bullock was living in a boat in West Norfolk last summer as he was planning to embark on a voyage across The Wash.

“A more foolhardy experience one can’t imagine, but apparently it can be done,” he said.

“He is now engaging with CGL (Change, Grow, Live) to kick what was clearly a drug habit going off the rails.

“He has been off the drugs now for a considerable length of time.”

Magistrates disqualified Bullock from driving for three years, and fined him a total of £300.

He will also pay £120 in victim surcharges and £50 in court costs, while the drugs will be forfeited and destroyed.
