Man walked in traffic and swore at takeaway customers, King's Lynn court told

A man who drunkenly shouted and swore at traffic and customers at a Lynn drive-thru has appeared in court.

Members of the public took Ben Stephen to safety after he fell into the grass verge in Clenchwarton Road.

Several people had seen him walking in and out of traffic and abusing customers at the drive-thru at about 2.30pm on June 7.

When police arrived, he refused to engage with the officer and asked to go home, town magistrates were told on Thursday.

The officer tried to arrange for Stephen’s wife to collect him but the defendant turned angry, swearing at him.

Prosecutor Jessica Pratt Vivian said, after Stephen had ignored several warnings, the officer tried to get him in the back of the police car but the defendant continued to argue and wouldn’t reason with him.

The 38-year-old, formerly of Queens Avenue in Lynn and now living in Lime Street, Sutton Bridge, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

In mitigation, Stephen apologised and said his actions were an unintentional result of drinkin alcohol and taking cocodamol tablets.

He was fined £100 and ordered to pay £105 costs and £34 victim surcharge.
